Zune Screen Cracks
February 1st, 2007 by methodshop in Tech News, iPod gadgets
Here’s an important tip for Microsoft Zune owners: don’t let your Zune charge overnight!
According to Engadget, Microsoft’s customer support center has received a flood of angry phone calls from Zune owners. For some reason if you let your Zune change for an extended period of time the screen will crack. A recent post on Mac Daily News conjectures that the issue is with the lithium ion battery located directly behind the Zune’s screen. When the battery gets too hot it expands and cracks the screen.

You’d think that Microsoft would consider this issue a major design flaw and offer to replace the cracked screens. So far there hasn’t been an official statement from Microsoft yet and unfortunately cracked screens are not currently covered under the Zune’s warranty. So where does that leave Zune owners with busted screens? They can either wait for Microsoft to address this issue or pull out their wallet and have a 3rd party like iPodMods repair their cracked Zune screen.
With all the screen scratching and battery life complaints about the iPod, it’s nice to see the Zune having a little trouble too.

Top Zune exec to pursue other interests
Meanwhile, a senior Microsoft executive who oversaw the launch of Zune plans to leave the company, the Associated Press is reporting.
Bryan Lee, corporate vice president at Microsoft’s entertainment and devices division, will reportedly severe ties with the Redmond-based software giant sometime in the next several weeks in order to “pursue personal interests.”
Lee is a key deputy of Robbie Bach, head of Microsoft’s entertainment and device division. He’ll be replaced by J Allard, one of the early Xbox leaders.
Microsoft still hopes to sell its millionth Zune by the end of June.

March 5th, 2008 at 9:59 amI have logged a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) regarding the cracked Zune LCD Screen. The screen is NOT covered under warranty according to Zune Customer support. I urge ALL consumers with cracked Zunes to log this same complaint. Even if your Zune is out of the warranty perion, this is a result of a design flaw, and should be replaced at NO COST to the consumer.

October 9th, 2008 at 7:46 pmI would also like to be in this because it is a design flaw and is not the fault of the consumer. I like to listen to music while I try to sleep and this morning it worked fine. I tried to use it for its nightly purpose and i turned it on and all i got was the back screen with some marks which looked to be cracks. Now I’m forced to use another zune that I found in my home (brother’s ex-girlfriend left it and didn’t want it). It would be nice for Microsoft, whom I have dealt with quite a bit over the phone for other problems, not zune related. I have referred people to zunes before, if this happens to any of my friends after I had referred them, its just going to give me a bad reputation. I have not yet contacted Microsoft yet, but I will soon.

November 17th, 2008 at 5:48 amI would also like to be included in this class action lawsuit. I’ve had my zune for about a year in a half now. I have kept my zune in a almost new condition with the help of a zune cover as a matter of fact the original screen cover that says lets get started on it, anyway I woke up this morning and my screen is not cracked but has multiple black lines throughout it. it was not even on the charger last night. as a matter of fact I only put it on the charger as needed. Please contact me and let me know what I need to do to be included in this class action lawsuit. Thank you
