MegaTouch Gametime Machine
Very few people, if any, will actually buy one of the Megatouch Gametime machines. Why? Because pretty much everything it has to offer can be achieved with a cheap PC for about 1/5 the price. Still, that doesn’t take away from it’s coolness, which only exists if you have a bar in your house. Everyone has one though, so that shouldn’t be a problem. Anywhere else, it would look more like a TV.

There’s about 100 different games pre-loaded that range from 1-4 players and cover all sorts of categories: quiz, strategy, word games, sports, puzzles, and kids. It supposedly has a hard drive, but I don’t think you’ll be storing any media on it, but what you can do is keep track of your high scores and game history for yourself and all of your friends. All of the software and hardware is developed by MegaTouch. If you have a ethernet jack handy, you can hook your machine up to it and check your mail, browse the web, and even download game data related to current events. Not sure how great of a user interface either of those applications offer, and I’m definitely not holding my breath.

For $3,800, the Megatouch Gametime machine is yours. The question is, do you actually want it? Why not just play some games on your laptop, that way you can actually do a little more with the machine. It’ll end up being a lot cheaper. Still, if this is just that “missing piece” to your home bar, Frontgate would love to sell you one.

I collect arcade games (video and pinball) and I’d love to have a touchscreen Megatouch, but they are pretty expensive unless you want a very old one.

So, I searched high and low for a similar package of low-attention games like you’d find on a Megatouch, but I was never able to find one. You could assemble a bunch of smaller/individual games to get something similar, but I found nothing that was integrated and easy to operate without dropping back to Winbloze. My goal was to build my own Megatouch with an old PC inside, hence the need to have it all integrated.

If anyone knows of a package like this for Win or Mac, please, please lemme know!

I don’t think I’ll be of much help to you, but I’ll give it a go. Have you tried MAME?

Yep, MAME is one of the machines I plan to put next to the homebuilt Megatouch :^)
