Axiomtek targets medical industry with new computer

by Edwin

axiomtek.jpgAxiomtek from Taiwan is a computer hardware developer, and the company is looking toward the medical industry by unveiling a new computer (MPC170-831-FL) which runs on Intel’s Core 2 Duo processor and comes complete with an integrated webcam and speakers, all crammed into a 17″ monitor case that does not have any noisy cooling fans whatsoever. It is interesting to note that this computer has been certified to be waterproof, so you don’t need to worry about the accidental spill that occurs whenever a butterfingered colleague is around, and neither do you need to fret when it starts to rain while you’re transporting one of these out in the open. Let’s take a closer look at the hardware after the jump.

Google offers $30 million for moon race

by Edwin

google-moon-race.jpg

Google seems to be dipping their fingers everywhere these days, with the latest news confirming the Internet giant’s sponsorship of a cool $30 million in a robotic race to the moon, in conjunction with a competition organized by the X PRIZE Foundation. $20 million of that prize money will be given to the first team that successfully lands a privately funded spacecraft on the moon, and this is only after it performs certain tasks. The second prize will be worth $5 million, while bonus prizes make up the remaining $5 million such as finding lunar ice. Sounds pretty much like a video game quest to me, except that the cold, hard cash from Google is very real.

Turntable that sounds pure gold

by Edwin

davinci-luxury-turntable.jpgThere are still certain folks who think that the best musical experience is still through an analog turntable, where sound is much “warmer” compared to the cold, lifeless digital format. For those in that camp, the DaVinciAudio Labs AAS Gabriel turntable ought to fit the bill. It’s design was inspired by the same process that was used to cut grooves into masters for vinyl discs. Theoretically, this approach would mean it is the most ideal playback environment where records are concerned, as virtually zero noise or vibration are produced. Unfortunately, such level of perfection can only be attained if you have deep pockets as the Luxury Edition (in 24-karat gold and white, no less) retails for $41,250 while the more affordable silver and black version costs $35,400.

by Edwin

estarling.jpg

eStarling has unveiled its latest WiFi digital photo frame, and it comes in a widescreen format that is a step up from standard digital photo frames that support only the 4:3 aspect ratio. In addition, it boasts Photobucket integration, enabling users who have stored their photos online to send it directly to eStarling for easy photo display. Not only that, you get RSS support that works with Flickr, Picasa, Photobucket, AOL, Smugmug, iPhoto, and Gallery among others. Additional features include text messaging to frame, dual use mode, auto power saving, and even email-to-frame. At $259 a pop, it looks like a pretty good buy for those new to the scene.

INNO Design brings new Bluetooth headset

by Edwin

inno-e1.jpg

INNO Design has just launched its new Bluetooth headset known as the T-Line, or INNO-E1 if you’re into model numbers. I must say it looks out of place when worn as the purely rectangle design does not flatter the wearer. Instead, it looks like a cancerous growth of technology that shouldn’t even be there in the first place, 6mm earbud or not. Still, for those who want to pick one up, it measures 18mm x 45mm x 12mm and weighs 10 grams. Battery life is rated at 4 hours for continuous talktime. No word on pricing as at press time though.

Whip up a cuppa over the Internet

by Edwin

coffee-machine.jpgCoffee lovers, rejoice! There is now a way for you to conjure a cup of hot joe just the way you like it via an Internet connection, courtesy of some caffeine lovers with a penchant for DIY. This unique coffee making machine is powered by the O2M8 WebBrick controller that is used for automation in houses. Guess there is nothing quite like a little bit of imagination to perk you up during those slow Monday afternoons. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to catch up on any water cooler gossip with this one since you’ll still be sitting all alone by your computer while keying in an order.

Triketek X2 Arrow is one wacky vehicle

by Edwin

triketek-x2-arrow.jpgWith the advent of design and technology these days, it is not uncommon to see some impractical yet fun designs crop up at motor shows and other exhibitions. Take the Triketek X2 Arrow for instance that is currently on display at Frankfurt – this uniquely styled, low-profile trike is one ride that offers both the driver and passenger the indescribable experience of having the wind blowing against your face in a vehicle that boasts the snappy handling of a motorcycle as well as the roll-cage safety of a sports car. Of course, others might beg to differ about it being open air since the quality of air around us these days have deteriorated ever since the first Model T roamed our roads last century. Read on more about the Triketek X2 Arrow after the jump.
