USB RC Car now comes with garage
Solid Alliance, long the purveyor of quirky USB gadgets, has now unveiled a garage that hooks up to your USB port. Inside the garage contains a car that can be controlled, albeit not with your everyday remote control. Instead, it uses a special desktop program where your arrow keys are the primary mode of navigation. Whenever the car runs out of juice, it can be placed back in the garage for charging (it takes 10 minutes to achieve a full charge). There is a 1 meter radius in terms of range, and this nifty gadget definitely helps kill off the afternoon boredom at the office. The USB RC Car with garage will retail for $30 when it is released this September in Japan.

DJ Robot gets makeover, now known as TPR-Robina
Same old package, but brand new name. Toyota’s TPR-Robina (the artiste formerly known as DJ Robot) now plays the role as a guide, and has received an aesthetics upgrade with a more professional look. The droid has also seen Toyota engineers make improvements such as obstacle avoidance and the ability to operate autonomously. Heck, even the TPR-Robina’s fingers are agile enough to grasp writing instruments in order to hand out some autographs, although I’m not sure how much those autographed items would go for on eBay. This is no dumb machine since it features an image recognition system that reads and understands visitors’ name tags, giving specific directions accordingly. You can check out the TPR-Robina in its new role as a receptionist/guide at the Toyota Kaikan Exhibition Hall on August 27.

Largest Hand in the World
Lui Hua can’t play the Nintendo Wii or Guitar Hero. He wants to but he physically can’t…. at least not yet. Why? Hua suffers from a rare condition known as macrodactyly. When he was hospitalized in Shanghai last month, his left thumb measured 10.2 inches and his index finger measured close to 12.

From The Shanghai Daily:
“It was the biggest hand in the world,” said Chen Zuliang, a hospital official. “Liu’s fingers stopped growing in recent years so plastic surgery was at last possible to correct the malformation.”
On July 20 surgeons undertook a seven-hour operation to reduce the size of Liu’s fingers and thumb. Doctors removed 11 pounds of flesh and bone in the procedure. A second surgery is scheduled to take place. Enlarged limbs can be caused by a number of medical conditions. Lymphedema is perhaps the most common cause and results in some extraordinarily enlarged limbs.
