iRiver Life Unit oozes with style

iRiver certainly knows how to turn on the style with its range of consumer electronics, and the Life Unit Multimedia Hub is no different. Styled by Japanese maestro Nakamichi, the Life Unit boasts a wide range of functionality such as a DVD player, a full specification HiFi, speakers and a mid-woofer, a TV, wireless connectivity, a detachable touchscreen display which folds out to reveal a 78 key QWERTY keyboard, an e-book reader, and a charging dock for iRiver’s family of MP3 players. All this, and you also have the mandatory PMP functions to boot. If there is but one device you could buy this year, forget about the iPhone and settle for this iRiver masterpiece instead.

Stop Snoring with the Sona Pillow
To me this just looks like a pillow with a grove in for your arm, but the sales spiel sounds good

Take the heat off your console

The Xbox 360 is one console that definitely has a problem with overheating, whereby its red ring of death is now the stuff of legends. While console coolers have been released to date, none of them perform a great job per se. Still, a cooling option is better than nothing, so why not give this passive Console Heat Radiator a chance? Placed horizontally above the Xbox 360 or a computer, its aluminum fins claim to dissipate heat efficiently, reducing the heat retained within. Not only that, it comes in a pretty funky design. Interested games can pick up the Console Heat Radiator for $35 a pop.
nx6000 Bluetooth Headset Review
I was recently sent a Gennum nx6000 Digital Wireless Headset to review, it has been sitting on my desk or plugged in my ear for the last couple of weeks and I must admit I’ve become quite fond of it.
The nx6000 wireless headset uses bluetooth to communicate with your mobile phone, so you can leave your phone in your pocket while you gab on the phone. The sound quality of the nx6000 is crystal clear and it incorporates Frontwave noise cancellation technology which means your voice can still be heard even if you’re in a noisy environment.
I’m not sure if I’ve got funny shaped ear canals (to match my funny shaped nose) but none of the ear attachments seemed to fit particularly well, though I was still able to use it okay.
The headset has a mini USB connector for charging, a full charge takes ~4 hours which will provide you with 6 hours of talk time and 75 hours of standby time.
Controlling the headset does take a bit of practice, there are only 3 buttons so you have to tap, press and hold to get at all the functions, it takes a bit of practice and memory but once mastered is pretty straight forward.
In conclusion I can recommend the nx6000 but a RRP of over $100 does seem a bit on the pricey side.

Excuse me, the parking meter is calling

Now isn’t this one of the coolest parking meters in the world or what – it actually notifies you via your cellphone whenever the time is about to run out, helping you avoid a fine from our ever vigilant traffic police. This intelligent parking meter is solar-powered, so maintenance is a non-issue where power is concerned, and it even enables parking violators to pay up their fines right at the meter. Too bad it is only available in Niagara Falls and Vancouver only at this point in time.

LED Spinning Top from Brando

Gadget mavens Brando has a new toy for us to play with, and this time there is no need for USB connectivity. The LED Spinning Top is pretty self explanatory – all you need to do is slide the base while placing it on a flat surface (preferably a table of some sort), and watch it spin automatically while entertaining you with ever changing light patterns! There really isn’t any function to this other than keep you entertained for all but 10 seconds. Still, if you have $8.00 sitting in your PayPal account and have no idea on how to spend it, why not head over to Brando and place your order?
DNA Gender Test via the Net

Is there anything you can’t buy on the Net? One of my friends and his wife are expecting their second child and after a bit of searching found a site that offers a DNA gender test. You can do the gender test 6 weeks after conception and everything is done remotely, this is my mate’s experience of it all:
After buying online a package arrived with instructions, due to the fact that its home based, accuracy can drop to 96% if you are not careful, therefore you must use a clean work surface and ensure NO males are in the room with the ‘mum to be’ who in our case had to do the test herself. (Not ideal especially when said ‘mother to be’ hates needles & blood)
You get 4 little spring blades that when activated should prick the end of your finger and you drip blood on to the test card without touching the card, you actually have to fill 3 circles which are about the size of a 2p each, it took almost an hour to do in our house! Not as easy as it seems from the website.

iPhone Rate Plans Revealed
Today Apple posted a page detailing the cost of the iPhone rate plans (US). And they aren’t as bad as most people had thought. All plans have unlimited data (nice!) – $60 for 450 minutes, $80 for 900 minutes and $100 for 1350 minutes. Existing AT&T customers can add unlimited data for $20 – $40 with a varying number of text messages.
- All iPhone service plans include Visual Voicemail and unlimited data — Internet and email — so you only have to decide how many minutes and SMS text messages you need. You’ll select your plan when you activate your iPhone using iTunes on your computer.
- If you’re already an AT&T customer and want to keep your current voice plan, you can just add an iPhone Data Plan with unlimited data (email and web) and Visual Voicemail for just $20 per month.
