For average users Mac is simpler to use with less work required by the user. When it comes down to it, both operating systems can do what you want them to. For your average user a correctly configured $200 PC gets the job done. For those of us who want more out of our computer than just word processing, we have to choose the OS that will allow us to do what we want. If what you want is simple video editing, Mac may be the choice for you. If you want to use specific applications for windows, that may be a better choice. Apple's displays are already quite dense. A increase to 1680 x 1050 would make them even denser. With a resolution independant OS, then icons scroll bars and such user interface elements can be made to be larger and thus easier to see on such a high density screen. It doesn't make higher resolution screens cheaper to build and thus sell, and of course the required electronics to drive them.
