Initially, I thought it was virtually worthless at night as well. But when my wife pointed out the brightness button to me, it turns out that it's got pretty good visibility at night with just the reverse lights. As far as the system flickering on during normal driving, I just press the power button and turn the thing off once I'm done backing up. John and Steve…this thing’s got 13 levels of brightness.
