Binary watch for geeks
November 24th, 2006 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets
“What is that you’ve got around your wrist?”, some might ask. “The 1000100101” should be your proud answer. After all, you know you’re an A-class geek when you’ve got this baby on your hand. The numbers add up to the word “Binary”, which explains all the funny rows of colored LEDs that are used to tell the time. Boasting a flat metal panel, cryptic flashing lights, a carbon fibre style strap, and a display that could fool airport security into thinking that you’re a walking time bomb, the 1000100101 makes the perfect gift for someone who is technologically inclined and goes nuts over a conversation that involves Gigabytes and Megahertz.
Features of this impressive LED watch includes an AM/PM mode, the month, the date, and the day-of-the-week function. There is even a light that automatically lights up every quarter of an hour between 6pm and midnight for that extra coolness factor. The three LED colors do a great job in telling the time, so for those who are still puzzled as to know how that is done, let us bona fide geeks show you the way. The green and red LEDs at the top indicate the hour, e.g. 3 red LEDs equals to 3 o’clock. The bottom row of green and yellow LEDs signify the minutes, i.e. 4 green and 8 yellow equals to 48 minutes past.
It does take some getting used to, so make sure this gift is given to one who is more inclined to machines and computers than humans. After all, owners of such a weird gadget will most probably prefer a robotic dog over a standard, breathing pup this holiday season. Tokyo Flash is currently carrying this 30mm x 37mm x 11mm watch for approximately $85 after conversion. Who says geeks are a marginalized bunch when it comes to the holiday season? Don’t just limit your gift ideas to the usual humdrum of digital audio players and game consoles.
