Pasta Express
November 8th, 2006 by Mike in Kitchen Gadgets
College students tend not to cook very often, unless you count a pack of Ramen Noodles or a Cup of Noodles as cooking (most people don’t). Why would they bother cooking though? It just generates left overs that won’t be eaten, and costs a lot of money, or more than a pack of Ramen. However cheap that kind of diet is, it isn’t healthy, and getting a Pasta Express, which can be used by even the worst chef, will let you enjoy some real food every once and awhile.
No stove is needed to use the Pasta Express, just a teapot of hot water. Heck, as long as its hot, any source of water will work. Just pour that water into the canister, which can hold a pound of spaghetti, and let it sit for the amount of time specified on the packaging. If you remember to set a timer, your pasta will turn out just fine. That’s right, there’s no need to do any stirring and the insulated tubes maintains the right temperature throughout the cooking process. Clean up requires minimal work as well. After you’ve gotten your freshly cooked, non-stick, somewhat healthy pasta out of the canister, either stick it in the dishwasher or give it a good rinse in the sink. After that, you can begin the cycle again.
Mothers with sons in college might look into getting this; no mom wants their son to live off of highly-fattening noodles for semesters at a time, even if they are a bargain. Besides, the Pasta Express is a bargain too, only $10, and spaghetti isn’t that expensive, is it?

April 2nd, 2007 at 12:34 amI bought one of these and it was terrible! It doesn’t “cook” the pasta, just makes it go soft. Tasted raw - inedible. I threw mine away… the gadget AND the pasta!

December 4th, 2007 at 12:32 pmI bought one of these, and it sucked..it doesn’t cook the pasta..no matter how hot the water is, and no matter how long you leave it in there..you might as well just cook it the old fashion way, because then you don’t have to worry about uncooked pasta

January 9th, 2008 at 5:24 pmWell, apparently you have to boil water anyway to fill the Pasta Express, then let it sit for 10 minutes. How does that save time? And the website says to pour hot water into the container before adding the pasta, to warm it up and decrease the cooking time. Why not just boil the water in a pot, add the pasta and cook it there? It’s the same amount of time and there’s no worry about undercooked pasta. Duh.
