Sony Micro Vault Midi – 8GB USB Flash Drive
by Tiago in USB GadgetsSony has made another hit with the announcement of another good and new product, this time it’s a small sized USB flash drive with a big storage capacity of 8GB, it will fit under the new Micro Vault ‘Midi’ series that will become available during November and come in different sizes including 512MB, 1GB, 2GB and 4GB.
One interesting detail is that their previous biggest USB drive had half the size of this one (only 4GB) and Sony comes out with the double-size instead of something smaller like 6GB. Another particular point that begs for attention is the combination of colors used, the drive comes in black that can be considered the background color, but the storage capacity information is “written” on red, so it really stands out and makes people read what is most important.
I currently have a 1GB flash drive from SanDisk and works perfectly with the car radio which is what I mostly use it for, but I wouldn’t mind having a device with 8GB in which I could add more music (all legal of course), from the calculus made by Sony it can hold 2,000 MP3 files. In this SanDisk vs Sony fight I have in my head, there is one more point that goes to Sony and that is the retractable USB connector port instead of the protective cap that SanDisk uses – it’s easier to use and there is no chance to lose or damage the protective cap.
Also, if you think 8GB is good you will be happy to know that with the pre-installed Sony software called Virtual Expander, the capacity can increase because it uses a system to compress the files and make them smaller.
No information about the price yet!
