Solar Radio
October 18th, 2006 by Tiago in Audio/Video Gadgets, Solar Powered Gear
Ohhhhhh yes, a gadget that saves energy and money by using the power of the nature (read sun) in order to work – it’s the Solar Radio. If the sun ain’t shining when you want to listen to the radio, there is no need to worry because there are other ways of getting it to work – like using one AAA battery. But on the other hand, if the solar radio is suppose to be used during the day in hot places (read most countries in Africa) than you can throw the batteries to the garbage and say bye-bye.
It features the two usual and unique radio frequencies – AM and FM – that can be adjusted manually by using the “roll-overs” located on each side of the device. The volume control is also controlled manually, so these 2 settings show that digital displays and controllers can’t work together with a solar powered device.
In terms of size it measures 9 x 6,5 x 2cm – if this means chinese/japanese/another language you don’t understand, let me give you a help just like I did a few days ago. By using SizeEasy and its cool features, I’m able to compare the size of the Solar Radio vs a Pack of playing cards, and this is the final result:
The purple object is the radio, you can check that they have pretty much the same dimensions with the only difference being the width - which is bigger on the solar radio by 8mm.
The whole package comes with the AAA battery and simple earphones that according to USBGeek are “especially made for FM stereo mode”, whatever that means…
PS - The Solar Radio only costs $17.
