Philips Universal Remote

Philips Universal Remote
The Harmony series of remotes from Logitech are great, but they tend to be a bit pricey. There are some good in between solutions for high quality all in one remotes.

One of those remotes is from Philips. Unlike most “universal” remotes, it isn’t cluttered with random buttons you won’t end up using. Instead, the only buttons on it are the ones you need, there will be no more scanning through the rows of buttons trying to find the one you need.

Chances are, the remote will support whatever piece of A/V equipment you own. Over 1,200 models of TVs, VCRs, DVD Players, DVRs, Cable + Satellite Boxes, stereo receivers, and TiVos are supported. The only thing needed for set up is the remote, no computer or manual is necessary.

The beautiful touch screen display shows only what you need for the specific unit you’re controlling. Navigating through the menus is pretty simple, too. You can either use your finger on the touch screen, or the scroll wheel.

Unfortunately, there is no rechargeable battery for this unit, you’ll have to supply 3 AA batteries. That’s about the only disappointment with this remote.

Anybody looking for an easy way to get rid of a multi-remote setup, but is hesitant to spend a lot of money, should take a look at the Philips Universal Remote. It’s not the most advanced out there, but the easy setup and sleek design make for a great combination. Available for $130 from Sharper Image.
