Logitech Harmony 1000 aims to bring your life under control

harmony-1000.jpgLogitech has a brand new universal remote control in the house that comes equipped with all the functionalities that were available on its predecessors, with additional improvements to bring the Logitech Harmony 1000 Universal Remote Control to a whole new level. This affordably priced universal remote control could be classified as a necessary luxury as living rooms get more and more cluttered with plenty of new devices by the day. Any sane person could be excused for wearing a straight jacket as he/she tries to figure out which remote control is used to turn the channel on the HDTV, begin recording on your DVD recorder, as well as streaming music from the Home Theater PC and managing its play list.

The Harmony 1000 remote control comes with a 3.5” touch-sensitive screen that makes it all the more easier to navigate your way through the myriad of menus. It uses an infrared receiver to control over 175,000 devices and counting. When you purchase the optional Logitech Harmony Wireless Extender, the Harmony 1000 can even be used to control appliances and devices from other rooms via radio frequency technology. The Harmony 1000 comes in a beautiful and sleep brushed-chrome and piano-black finish that will sit proudly in any living room.

The inclusion of Logitech’s Smart State Technology enables users to track the various operations of different components under control at the moment, allowing you to switch between the watching a movie with listening to your favourite audio track. Both the U.S. and Europe will receive the Logitech Harmony 1000 later this fall at the recommended retail price of $499.99.

I hope the software for configuring it is better than the godawful crap that comes with the other models. I have an older model and I’ve given up using it because a) it can’t be configured to do what I need, and b) the web-based software for it makes any small change seem like an hour-long project.
