Samsung “female” phone mystery.

Samsung E500?

As Mother’s Day approaches, the coolest gadgets team are getting in touch with our female side to bring you this distinctively feminine-looking cell E500 mobile phone from Samsung, said to be inspired by Bottocelli’s “Birth of Venus” – though try as hard as we can, we don’t see how!

There aren’t any detailed specifications, and we’ll be discussing that later, but it looks stylish and unique, and comes with a handy LCD mirror and leather carrying case.

Unusually, we couldn’t find any information on the Samsung product page. One independent website claimed that the E500 phone had been cancelled, so we did some research to find out more. The good news is that the phone is indeed available: the bad news is that it’s only on sale in the Russian market at this time, having recently made its “debut” at the 2006 Expocomm in Moscow.

We did find some specifications on a similar looking Samsung E500, which was announced in the second quarter of 2004. Certainly by today’s standards, the original E500 model would a fairly basic spec.

My GUESS is that the new SGH E500 cellular is a revamped version of the original E500 with a chique looking case, but I don’t know, and Samsung aren’t saying. I’m not sure whether it’s a cell phone design inspired by a Renaissance painting, or by the need to offload some obsolete stock in Moscow, but it doesn’t matter; my Mum would love this phone.

It’s not an option this year though. That leaves me two more days to find a Mother’s Day gadget!

Found via Digital World Tokyo. The product page is missing at this time!
