Not wanting to defend the goon, but you are allowed to copy the music off CDs as a backup of the one you paid for.

As well, there are other music downloading sites other than iTunes. There is also sony’s connect. Just think before you make yourself look like an ass.

It’s always difficult to argue with someone of your eloquence, but I had a look at the Sony Connect site and couldn’t find a single Beatles track available for download; Beatles search.

And yes, it’s been widely
reported that the RIAA consider the copying of CDs and making backup does not come under “fair use”.

where is the footage of BUSH saying what the source was a CD for the files on the iPod?????

uhhh, tape or records? what if the Bush recorded off the radio-or any other analog source - shoot, my 80’s Nak will play Analog tapes very accurately……. and you know? my Dual turntable would probrobly twist heads - when compared to a 128 standard digital playback…but hey , you prob do not know anything about these terms because you are writing in a ‘coolest-gadgets’ page..lol

Why don’t you write on something productive like, ohh, how the President could have the Beatles LEGALLY on the iPod - oh- I forgot - that is not newsworthy… sorry.

please do not MAKE news… just report the facts.

Thanks for the criticisms, which were well-received.

Copying from radio broadcasts is also illegal in the opinion of the RIAA (see PDF document in link below), but I’ve amended the article to include the possibility that George Bush MAY have tracks on his iPod copied from vinyl (or cassette); but I think it highly unlikely. In any case I’d be interested to hear if there are artists mentioned in the video clip who’ve never recorded on vinyl or tape.

I’not trying to criminalise George Bush in the piece, rather trying to bring to people’s attention the absurd position of the RIAA (and others) on CD ripping and fair usage, and perhaps poke a bit of fun at George Bush at the same time.

And yes, you’re correct to say that I wrote an article on the possibility of George Bush “illegally” ripping CDs onto his iPod because it was certainly likely to the piece more newsworthy. I make no apologies for that because I feel the RIAA’s stance is something that should be discussed.

And thank you for elevating me to the status of reporter .

LOL. I keep trying to explain, it’s a tongue in cheek article about whether not it’s illegal to copy music that you’ve paid for onto another medium. It wasn’t meant to be an attack on George Bush, though I can see how it could be construed as such. Personally, I think it’s likely that President George Bush has illegal music on his iPod, in terms of the RIAA’s definition of legal usage anyway.
