Yeah, the 64 led controler that Johan speaks of is totally underpowered for this type of app. Don't get me wrong, its a great part for a bunch of applications but this is not one of them.

The types of controlers used her are 16 port PWM led controlers with i2c. 3 of them, which are less than the diameter of a penny, will control 48single or 16 tri-color leds. This means each board of 12 can do 64 tri-color leds. The other board only does 1/3 of this. Also, for those with the technical knowlege to design circuit boards, a single board of 24 led controler chips could power 128 tri-color leds.
All and all, check out the origional designers of these boards at MIT.

I think he had plenty - notice all of the bottles are empty. There's a real boozer! :)

I'd love to see something like this done on a full-sized bar. It would also be really cool to cover a wall with something like this in a dance club I think.

Check out the link to my site if you are interested in re-creating this the easy way. Probably easier than the guy who built that bar. You can buy Widgets and re-use pre coded API libraries to achieve the same with LEDs. My blog is on Mac coding but it works on almost any platform.

That is sooo tacky it's cool. I have to admit, some of the effects were quite absorbing. Pity about the camera shake. I guess he must have had a little too much of one of those bottles.
Nice one!
