Sony Ericsson K800i, K790i
March 1st, 2006 by Al in Mobile Phones
Keen to capitalise on the explosion of photo-blog culture, today Sony Ericsson has announced the introduction of 2 phones, the K800i and the K790i. The K800i and the K790i will have integrated Blogger.com software (courtesy of Google), an RSS reader and most excitingly, a 3.2 mega-pixel camera. These new offerings, the first to be
marketed under the Sony Cybershot brand, mark an important departure from the current
line of Walkman phones.
The K800i (pictured) operates on UMTS and dual-band GSM. It measures 4.7″ x 1.8″ x 0.7″ and is a mere 4 oz in weight. It has a 2″ QVGA screen
with 262,000+ colours and resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. It also has a bank 64MB internal Flash memory and a Memory Stick Micro M2 slot capable of holding up to an extra GB of memory. A handy USB 2.0 port is also bundled in, to help with the speedy download and storage of photos taken.
If downloading images using USB isn’t your scene, then the K800i makes life even easier by allowing you to print your photos directly to your PictBridge photo-printer without using your computer.
As well as having impressive image capturing capabilities, the K800i also has 3G video calling as
standard and can stream MPEG4 and Real video. The K800i offers music playback across both MP3 and AAC. The K790i boasts similar dimensions and features to that of the K800i bar 3G video calling. Instead, it will use tri-band GSM and EDGE for data communications. An Americian version of the K790i, dubbed the K790a is in the works and due for release in Summer 06. The K790a will have identical specs to the K790i but will be able to operate on American GSM bands.
The K800i, K790i and K790a should be available in the Summer.
Thanks to Alexia for the heads up on this.

June 9th, 2006 at 1:29 amThis is a tasty looking phone and love it to pieces, I prefer my Nokia N91 but have to say Sony seem to be better for MP3 player. Take a look here at my site http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/2006/03/01/sony-ericsson-k800-and-k790-cyber-shot-mobiles/

December 12th, 2006 at 6:48 pm[...] Being a tech-freak is bad enough the rest of the year, but Christmas is a complete boon for me! Given that the mobile market penetration in Ireland is at pretty much 100%, phone companies are keen to hook us all in with mobile packed with features. The Sony Ericsson K800i is a perfect example of phone meets entertainment hub. The K800i comes packed with a 3.2 megapixel camera, built-in FM tuner and 64MB internal memory. A good all-rounder. As you’d expect from Sony, it’s got a really crisp display. Coolest Gadgets did a good review of this phone. Check out the CG guys, they are always on top of the freshest and most interesting gadgets to hit the virtual shelves. The Sony Ericsson K800i is available on Bill Pay for €169.00 from the Vodafone.ie Online Store for new customers. No Comments so far Leave a comment RSS feed for comments on this post. If i wanted to take better photos, I’d have bought a DSLR. But for a phone+camera, it works well for me ![]()

April 23rd, 2008 at 2:14 pmI can also recommend a cool app fro Sony’s. It’s called i-Citizen and it came out recently. It’s the world’s first 3D world and the k800 works like a charm on it. Its fun to play and you can meet people and chat to them as you might have guessed. They have promotions where they give away PS3’s and Xboxes to people in a place called i-Bid in the app. Its beta release was announced in March 2008 and anyone can give it a try. You can get it from your mobiles browser or your pc by going to http://wap.icitizencommunity.com.
