GStor Plus Hard Disk Drive – by ExcelStor
by Keith in Miscellaneous Gadgets, PC Gadgets
Most of us these days have computer systems with large storage space, at least 10GB in any systems, easily. As time goes by, users upgrade their hard disk storage capacity to as large as over 200GB in a system. As we take these storage devices for granted, what might happen if something goes wrong to our precious hard disk drive?
Not just in the corporate world, even common home users store important and confidential data in their hard disk drive, and most of the time easily susceptible to corruption by malicious viruses, as we surf the internet. Office management would worry for loss or stolen hard disk drives, containing secured company data, which can be an important asset to the company. As such, these hardware devices are likely to be more targeted as “criminal robbery” than just money in the wallet, in the future.
Research invested by Excelstor has paid off their work, introducing GStor Plus hard disk drives. Unlike other hard drive, GStor Plus hard drives are embedded with Hardware Encryption and other security features to protect data in the device, in the event of unforeseen circumstances, such as virus attack, or when software patching went horribly wrong. In addition, GStor Plus hard drives are also equipped with Restore functions, to recover any data loss or corruption, to its original state, as though nothing had really happened.
For a multiple-users single PC setup, GStor Plus hard drives come with Multiple Booting function, to allow different users access their own share of workspace, preventing cross contamination of files between users. For instance, in the event should any one user’s partition get corrupted, other users can still access and use their own personal allocated partition without any problem.
There are two modes of operation on a GStor Plus hard drive: The default GStor Plus Mode and the Last Recovery Attempt Mode. The latter is specifically reserved for administrators to unlock the GStor Plus hard drive in case of emergency. In its default mode, a GStor Plus drive can be configured for Encryption only, Restore only or both Encryption and Restore functions together, giving flexibility yet enhanced security to administrators.
Currently, there are three models of GStor Plus hard disk drives – GP1080-E231, GP1080-E232 and GSM1080. The first two models are 80GB 7,200rpm drives for desktop, while the GSM1080 is a 80GB GStor Secure mobile storage hard drive.
