Futuristic Bike Sheds

Cycle Pods
Could this be the future of the school bike sheds, the CyclePod (finally a pod not of the Apple variety).

The CyclePod is a circular enclosure that can store up to 8 bikes, the way it differs from conventional cycle parking stations is that the bikes are stored vertically, maximising the number of bikes that can be stored in a given space.

The Cyclepod also makes it easier to lock your bike securely and you no longer need to bend down fiddling with keys. It comes with an optional roof which is certainly more than any lamp-post can offer.

It’s currently on trial in London and Nottingham, and if successful could roll out throughout the UK. If they could make something like this for cars it would make the obligatory Saturday shopping trip a lot easier.

Futuristic Bike Sheds?
Hardly.
Vertical storage sheds for bikes were a commonplace item on Sydney railway stations back in the 60’s and 70’s (and possibly even before that!). The only difference was that they were not circular, but stored in a row either side of centre, and capable of storing many more bikes than 8. They included a roof as well!

It was the first time I’d seen vertical bike sheds, and the styling of them makes them look futuristic to me (though I must admit I find it difficult to become excited about a bike shed)
