Guitar tuning made easy

November 17th, 2005 by Marc in Miscellaneous Gadgets

There must be a musical vibe in the ether today - this is another instrument related post!

I’m more of a drummer than a guitarist myself - moving all your fingers at the same time always looked way too complicated. I have been on the receiving end of some badly tuned guitars though and it isn’t a pleasent sound.

I’ve also seen people spend hours painfully plucking a string, tweaking the tuning, plucking the string… so this actually looks quite cool.

Plug this tuner into the (electric) guitar, place the head over one of the tuning pegs and pluck. The StringMaster figures out what note the string is actually playing (as opposed to what it’s supposed to be playing) and turns the tuning peg appropriately until the note is correct. Sounds like a good idea to me.

I’ve got one of these too and it works. I can tune a guitar fine by ear but the Stringmaster is good for putting on new strings and is just fun to use anyway. There’s a video demo @ HotGuitarist.com if you want to see it.
