There is no reason why the next generation of MSN Messenger should not be considered cool. First of all, it is no longer called MSN Messenger, instead Microsoft has renamed it to be Windows Live Messenger, (in fact is MSN Messenger 8 beta), to integrate with the introduction of Windows Live, an online application fully equipped with several features, by Microsoft.

The first version of Windows Live Messenger 8 has been spotted on the internet, only available to official beta testers. The latest one, Version 8.0.0328, was leaked by an unknown source. Compared to the previous version, Windows Live Messenger 8 has added features including loads of graphical improvements, i.e. display picture borders replaced by toast boxes.

Some noticeable updates in this version are:

• Video button in the conversation window
• Send and Search buttons replaced
• Send button color adapts to window colors
• A sign up window
• Everything branded with Windows Live
• All functions are work in this update

At the moment, unofficial users may be able to download the installation file from some internet sites. However, their account may not be allowed to logged on, since Windows Live is only in beta stage, and only available to official developers. Unauthorised accounts will therefore be forbidden to log on. Others may find it possible by applying patch program to the installation file, only to realise that they are connecting to the server, via a proxy, which means going through a third-party account (authorised) in order to permit your own account to log on. As such, there is a high possibility of security being compromised. Do so at your own risk! If you are not sure, the latest stable build of MSN Messenger 7.5 is sufficient to meet the needs of many users.

On the whole, Windows Live Messenger is the next coolest Internet Messaging (IM) client software in town, getting ready to be launched soon. Keep a lookout at this column here.
