Pure digital were exhibiting at the recent show and one of their products that cought my eye was the PocketDAB 2000.

DAB (digital) radio is slowly catching on over here, helped by companies like Pure. As with digital vs. analogue television the advantages are clearer, better quality audio and the ability to transmit metadata along with the show - anything from the name of the currently broadcasting presenter to song lyrics.

I like this radio for a number of reasons:

• It also has an FM radio - handy if you’re travelling abroad or out of DAB reach
• It can pause and rewind DAB broadcasts (although not FM ones)
• It can record DAB broadcasts to play back later
• Any text accompanying the broadcasts can be saved along with or separately from the audio
• Last but not least it’s an MP3 player - stick in an SD card and you’re ready to go
